CPU overcommitment is used to control the number of virtual CPUs (vCPUs) allocated to VM instances. The calculation formula is as follows: Number of vCPUs can be allocated = Total number of physical CPU threads x CPU overcommitment ratio.
- Assume that the physical CPU you use has 12 cores and 24 threads. If the CPU overcommitment ratio in the global settings is set to 10, the number of vCPUs that can be allocated to VM instances is 240 cores.
- Excessively large CPU overcommitment ratio might seriously affect the host performance and cause the business performance to freeze.
