ZStack lets you add different clusters to different primary storages within a zone, while these primary storages can either be LocalStorage or shared storages.

  • If primary storages are shared storages, volumes are created on these shared storages but are irrelevant to hosts. These volumes can be attached to the VM instances of any host. Specifically, these volumes are not constrained by the hosts, and cannot be migrated.
  • If primary storages are LocalStorage and attached one volume before, ensure that both this volume and the target VM instance reside on the same host. If both this volume and the target VM instance reside on the same host, migrate the volume and the target VM instance to the same host. You can either choose to migrate the VM instance (Make sure that you stop the VM instance in advance) or the volume.
